The Faculty Affairs division of the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor supports UMKC faculty in all aspects of faculty work and across all stages of faculty careers. Faculty Affairs is responsible for oversight and implementation of faculty-related policies and procedures including the Promotion and Tenure process, faculty evaluations, faculty awards and recognitions, faculty support and professional development, New Faculty Orientation, the Faculty Code of Conduct, and the academic grievance process. Who We Are 

Vice Provost of Faculty Affairs -Diane Filion, Ph.D.

The Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs provides leadership and support in all faculty-related matters including coordination and oversight of the campus-wide Promotion and Tenure process, faculty evaluation, faculty awards, faculty hiring, and new faculty orientation.  In addition, the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs oversees faculty support and development initiatives including the Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching (FaCET) and the Division of Instructional Design and Technology Services (IDTS).  The Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs is also responsible for ensuring compliance with all faculty-related policies, including the Standards of Faculty Conduct and the Academic Grievance Procedure.

Director of Faculty Support and Interim Director of Service-Learning – Alexis Petri, Ed.D.
Associate Research Professor, Department of Psychology, College of Arts and Sciences

The director of faculty support works with the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs to facilitate, design, coordinate, advertise, implement, assess, and document outcomes of UMKC’s faculty development and support programs, in collaboration with FaCET and other units. The director also leads focused efforts to support faculty in grant-writing and coordinating submission of funding proposals related to institutional transformation or faculty initiatives. Currently, the director of faculty support is also serving as interim director for UMKC Service-Learning program.

Director of the Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching (FaCET) – Candace Schlein, Ph.D.

The director of FaCET sponsors forums for the discussion, assessment, development, and documentation of teaching practices with demonstrated verifiable benefits for students. FaCET is a hub for existing UMKC programs that emphasize student learning and is a gathering place for faculty who are committed to the improvement of their own teaching as well as for faculty who are committed to the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Director, Academic Technologies - Molly Mead

The Academic Technologies team supports all of the eLearning software such as Canvas, Panopto, Zoom and many other tools used for teaching and learning. The support we provide entails administration and maintenance of the elearning software as well as piloting new tools for future use.  The team is also responsible for developing learning materials for the tools and for communicating how to use the tools effectively to students, faculty and staff throughout the UM System.

Faculty Ombudsperson - Carla Noack

The mission of the Office of the Faculty Ombudsperson is to contribute to a fair, equitable, and respectful work environment by providing independent, neutral, confidential, and informal consultation to faculty who visit the Ombudsperson. Read more about what an ombudsperson does.
